Harbor Light, Nov. 1-7, 1989:
John A. Duvernay, 43, of Little Traverse Township, died Oct. 25, 1989 at Community Memorial Hospital, Cheboygan.
Mr. Duvernay was born Oct. 23, 1946, in Petoskey, the son of John E. and Patricia (Price) Duvernay.
When he was 9 years old, he played in the first year of organized Little League in Petoskey.
He attended Petoskey schools and graduated from Petoskey High School in 1964. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served on the destroyer USS Davis. He was also stationed in Athens, Greece. Upon discharge from the service, he rejoined the family business, Duvernay Signs. He has always made his home in the Petoskey area.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Petoskey; the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 2462 in Petoskey.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Doug (Lee) Graham of Petoskey and Mrs. Patrick (Wendy) Morris of Harbor Springs; one brother, Thomas, currently teaching in Kyungju City, South Korea; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Duvernay of Minneapolis, Mn; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Dorothy Price of Petoskey; three nieces and three nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Oct. 28 at the First Presbyterian Church in Petoskey. Pastor Gerald Blevins officiated.
The family suggests memorials to the Northern Michigan Chapter of the American Heart Association or the First Presbyterian Church Sunday School.
